While COVID disrupted many parts of my life, it also gave me something priceless – uninterrupted time with my children. Looking back, the pandemic was an unexpected opportunity to strengthen our bond.
With my son, we quickly fell into a rhythm. We spent most evenings together for four years—three days a week weightlifting and two days boxing. These hours were sacred, not just for the physical benefits but for the connection we built. Watching him transform physically and mentally as he developed a passion for fitness was remarkable. Now that he’s away at university, I see how those moments became a foundation for his fitness journey and our relationship. The memories of our workouts are some of my most treasured, and I believe they instilled in him habits that will last a lifetime.
With my daughter, we found our bond through daily walks. Simple as it was, walking together gave us time to talk and connect away from the distractions of life. Even now, after she’s moved out, we continue our tradition of walking most Sundays. These walks have become an essential part of our relationship, a time to catch up and enjoy each other’s company in a way that I know will stay with us for years.
During COVID, I realized just how essential family time is. I built my life around it – by 4:30 p.m. every day, my workday would stop. Friends, colleagues, and clients knew I was rarely available. That time was reserved for my son. It gave me a clear perspective on the balance between family, health, and work, a reminder that no matter how demanding life becomes, time with those we love matters.
In an uncertain time, these moments renewed my appreciation for family, health, and the irreplaceable value of quality time.
